With the victory by Shomari Figures, Alabama will most likely have two Black representatives in Congress at the same time for the first time in its history.

Alabama has elected Democrat Shomari Figures to represent Alabama's redrawn 2nd Congressional District, making him the first Black American elected to the seat, according to incomplete, unofficial results. With about 96% of the votes in, Figures had 156,622 votes compared to 130,568 for his Republican opponent, Caroleene Dobson.

The Shomari Figures win on Tuesday might still play a pivotal role in the House majority, which might not be determined until later this week.

Results are in for the Alabama Congressional District 1 seat. Baldwin County, Escambia County, Ala., and some Mobile County residents voted in the General Election between Tom Holmes (D) and Barry Moore (R).
