Bob Riley to the 13th Circuit Court of Alabama in 2006, becoming the first female jury trial judge in Mobile. Stewart was the first female president of the Circuit Judges Association, receiving a J.D. from Vanderbilt Law School in 1992.

Former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Gorman Houston, remembered for his integrity and devotion to fairness in the legal system over a career that spanned most of his long life, has died. Houston was 91.
